WHEN THE PAINTER HOLDS THE BRUSH
A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

Aisha loved to paint.
Her room was filled with unfinished canvases, brushes of different sizes, and colors that seemed to have a life of their own. Whenever she held a brush, she felt powerful. She could decide what appeared on the canvas and what didn’t.
One day, while working on what she believed would be her masterpiece, she became frustrated. No matter how hard she tried, the painting wasn’t coming together. She erased, repainted, and adjusted countless times, but the result remained disappointing.
Exhausted, she dropped the brush and whispered, “Lord, why isn’t this working?”
In the quietness of that moment, a thought settled in her heart:
“The brush was never designed to paint by itself.”
She sat still.
The brush could be beautifully crafted.
It could be expensive.
It could have great potential.
But without the hand of the painter, it could accomplish nothing.
Suddenly, Aisha saw herself in that brush.
She had been relying on her talent.
Trusting her experience.
Depending on her own understanding.
Yet God was inviting her to become an instrument in His hands.
That evening, she prayed differently.
“Lord, I surrender my gifts.
I surrender my plans.
I surrender my strengths and even my weaknesses.
Use me as You please.”
From that day, she stopped trying to control everything.
And just as a painter creates masterpieces with an ordinary brush, God began using her life in ways she never imagined.
Sometimes He used her words to encourage the discouraged.
Sometimes He used her actions to open doors for others.
Sometimes He used her testimony to bring healing to broken hearts.
She discovered a powerful truth:
The value of the brush is not in itself.
The value of the brush is in whose hand it rests.
God is not looking for perfect people.
He is looking for surrendered people.
The greatest privilege in life is not possessing extraordinary gifts; it is placing ordinary gifts in the hands of an extraordinary God.
When you surrender yourself completely to Him, He can use you to accomplish things beyond your imagination.
The question is not whether you are gifted.
The question is:
Have you placed yourself in the Master’s hands?
KEY SCRIPTURE:
Isaiah 64:8 – “Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.”
PRAYER POINTS:
Lord, help me to surrender every part of my life completely to You.
Father, use my gifts, talents, and abilities for Your glory alone.
Lord, make me an instrument through which Your purpose and power will be revealed to others.
