THE FAST GOD REMEMBERS

Bisi had just completed a 7-day fast. No food, no water till evening, constant prayers, she gave it everything. Yet, deep inside, she felt unchanged. The answers she expected hadn’t come, and her heart grew restless.

“Lord, I have fasted… why does it feel like nothing is happening?” she whispered one night.

The next day, on her way home, she noticed an elderly woman sitting by the roadside, looking weak and exhausted. Something nudged her heart to stop.

At first, she hesitated. She was tired, hungry, and just wanted to go home. But the nudge grew stronger.

Reluctantly, she turned back.

She bought food, sat beside the woman, and watched her eat. Then she reached into her bag and gave her some money. The woman’s eyes filled with tears as she muttered prayers of gratitude.

As Bisi stood to leave, something shifted inside her.
A strange peace.
A quiet joy.

That night, as she prayed, the answer came clearly in her spirit:
“This is the fast I desire.”

Bisi realized that while she had been denying herself food, God was asking her to deny herself comfort, convenience, and selfishness for the sake of others.

She remembered the scripture:
True fasting is not just about staying away from food, but about breaking yokes, helping the needy, and showing compassion.

From that day, her fasting changed.
It was no longer just about what she avoided
it became about what she gave. Fasting is powerful, but not all fasting moves the heart of God.
The fast that pleases Him goes beyond hunger, it touches lives.

When you deny yourself to lift others, heaven pays attention.
When your sacrifice brings relief to someone else, God responds.

KEY SCRIPTURE:
Isaiah 58:6 – “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice… to set the oppressed free?”

PRAYER POINTS:

Lord, teach me the kind of fasting that pleases You.
Father, give me a heart that sees and responds to the needs of others.
Lord, let my sacrifices bring glory to You and relief to people around me.
