WHEN LOVE BECOMES A PRISON

A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

Amara never imagined she would be afraid of someone she once prayed for.

When Daniel came into her life, it felt like a miracle. He was respected in church, deeply spiritual, and admired by many. People often said, “Any woman who marries him is blessed.” So when he told Amara, “God told me you are my wife,” she didn’t question it. She felt chosen.

At first, everything seemed perfect. But slowly, things began to change. His voice became harsh. His corrections became insults. And one day, anger turned into a slap.

Amara was shocked. But more than the pain, it was the confusion that broke her.
“How can a man of God act like this?” she wondered.

When she tried to speak up, he silenced her.
“This is how I correct you. Don’t question me,” he said.
He reminded her constantly, “God brought you to me.”

She felt trapped not just emotionally, but spiritually. Leaving felt like disobeying God. Staying felt like losing herself.

One night, bruised and broken, she cried out to God, “Lord, is this Your will for me?”

As she opened her Bible with trembling hands, her eyes fell on a verse:
“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17)

That moment changed everything.

She realized something powerful:
God’s presence does not produce bondage.
God’s love does not produce abuse.

Strength rose within her. With courage, she stepped away from the relationship, not because it was easy, but because it was necessary. People talked. Some judged. Others didn’t understand.

But she chose freedom over appearance.
Truth over fear.
God’s voice over man’s control.

Years later, Amara stood stronger, healed, and whole. She had learned that not everyone who speaks in God’s name truly represents Him.

God will never lead you into a place where your dignity is destroyed.
Abuse is not love. Control is not spirituality. Fear is not obedience.

If you are in a situation that crushes your spirit and harms your body, it is not from God. Seek help. Speak up. Choose freedom.

Your body is God’s temple, it is not meant to be broken by another human being.

KEY SCRIPTURE:
1 Corinthians 3:16–17 –
“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple… If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person…”

PRAYER POINTS:

Lord, open my eyes to recognize what is truly from You and what is not.
Father, give me the courage to walk away from every form of abuse and bondage.
Lord, heal every broken place in me and restore my peace and dignity.
