CHAPTER 28 – BATTLE OF THE BRETHREN

AS INSPIRED BY THE CREATIVE ONE
Mummy’s Moment
When leaders break… revival deepens. This one had every woman in church weeping like children.
It was meant to be a simple women’s fellowship meeting.
Theme: “The Weight We Carry.”
It was Meant to be light.
Chiffon scarves.
Small chops.
Mama’s usual message about “balance between ministry and womanhood.”
Instead?
We got a spiritual earthquake.
The meeting started normal.
Worship.
Testimonies.
Announcements.
Then it was time for Mummy G.O. to speak.
She walked in slowly…Not her usual “I own the stage” strut. Just soft steps…Like someone walking with memories.
No excessive makeup. No plenty rings. Just a small Bible and an old photo album.
She climbed the pulpit…Looked around…And said…
“I won’t be teaching today…I’ll be bleeding…If you’re here to judge… leave now.”
Silence.
You could feel the air go still.
Then she opened the photo album.
Held up a picture.
It was her younger version, smiling, eyes full of fire. She had given the media team earlier. It was also projected on the screen
“This was me in 1999…The year I was denied ordination because I was ‘too bold for a woman.’ That year, I went home, cried for three days, and told God…
‘If they won’t give me a microphone, I will become the message.’”
Then she paused.
“I led house fellowships…Prayed till demons screamed…Fasted till my body shook….And when the revival came?…They said I was ‘too powerful to be under a man.’And the same men who once ignored me…started fighting to control me.”
The women stared.
Some mouths were open.
“So I fought…Not just spiritually…I fought for relevance.I fought for a seat.
And along the way…I got scared.”
Then her voice cracked.
“I was afraid…that someone younger, fresher, bolder…would take the light that nearly killed me to earn.”
And then she whispered the name.
“T.J.”
Silence…Gasps.
“I watched her… and at first, I celebrated her…Then I studied her. Then I feared her…And without knowing it…I began to compete.Quietly.Internally. But it was still envy.Dressed in protocol, order and spiritual grammar.”
She wept.
Like deep, shaking sobs.
No one moved.
Some were already crying..
Then she said:
“I almost became Saul…Throwing javelins at David…But God rich in mercy stopped me…before I destroyed the next move. I was the one who invited Prophet Amos so he could search her out for me. Before he came , he told me she was genuine, but I pleaded with him to help me curb her by telling her to watch out for pride…”
And the entire hall?
Cried.
Prayed.
Repented.
Some women stood and confessed:
“I’ve envied my daughter.”
“I’ve competed with a protégé.”
“I’ve hated the one I was meant to raise.”
And Mama?
She left the pulpit, went to the middle aisle…
Knelt.
Lifted both hands.
“Father…Let my generation stop fighting the ones sent to complete what we couldn’t…Let us bless… not block…Empower… not envy…And if we’ve wounded any Davids…please, heal them.”
Grace be like what?
Grace be like spiritual mother open her heart and everybody realise:
We were all hiding jealousy behind protocol.
(Grace is when we finally admit we’ve been hurting others while claiming to protect order.)
That night?
Mama told me a lot of things she couldn’t say on the altar. She said the water incident was actually her fault. She said that day as T.J sat in the room, she thought within herself..
“I hope she chokes on that water”
“Mabel, she could have died.. and I would have been responsible. The devil was lurking around looking for whose thought he would use.”
I wanted to tell her T.J had mentioned her name from her vision. T.J had seen clearly..
Mama picked up her phone and opened to 1 Samuel 18:12:
Read it Mabel… this was me..
“And Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him.” I read it…
I knew at that point Mama needed consolation not condemnation . I was not going to add to her self condemnation. Mercy had found her. She had humbled herself..
“Mama.. you have done the right thing.. The Word of God states that ‘ If my People who are called by name shall humble themselves and repent, I will forgive them and heal their land’ …Mama, Thank you for choosing healing over ego, Mama. I honour you.”
Mama wept like a baby on my laps…

Revival is first personal.
Anyone can be infested with jealousy. It doesn’t respect persons. May we watch, we we root it up before it germinates.
