‘WHEN COUNSEL IS A TRAP’

Nike trusted Feyi. They had been friends for nearly ten years, shared secrets, tears, and even business ideas.

So when Nike opened up about her marriage going through a rough patch, it was only natural to ask Feyi for advice.

“Girl, don’t let any man treat you like trash,” Feyi said confidently. “You deserve better. Show him you can live without him. Let him beg for you.”

Reluctantly, Nike followed through. She moved out of the house, stopped picking calls, and blocked her husband’s number, all under the banner of “self-respect.”

Weeks turned into months. Nike started to see clearly, but it was too late. Her husband had reconnected with an old friend… and this time, Feyi stopped taking Nike’s calls.

It wasn’t until someone spotted Feyi and Nike’s husband at a restaurant that the truth surfaced.

Feyi had wanted the man all along.

Not all advice is sincere. Some are calculated traps, masked as concern.
Judas once questioned why expensive oil was being poured on Jesus, pretending to care about the poor. But scripture exposed him:

“He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.” – John 12:6 NIV

Be discerning. Not every “counsellor” is sent by God.
Before following advice, pause and ask the Holy Spirit:
“Whose interest is this really serving?”

And on your own part, be the kind of friend who speaks truth with purity of heart. Don’t be a Judas in disguise.

PRAYER:
Lord, open my eyes to recognize insincere counsel.
Deliver me from traps packaged as advice.
Give me true friends, and help me be one too. Amen.
