WHEN THE BODY SPEAKS
A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

As Inspired by the LIVING WORD
Tara had always been the strong one in her family. If anyone needed help, she showed up. If there was a crisis, she carried the weight. She was the peacekeeper, the organizer, the counsellor, the “go-to” for everyone.
But for a while now, her body had been whispering warnings, sleepless nights, persistent headaches, sudden dizziness. She ignored them every time.
“I’m fine,” she would say.
“I just need to push a little more.”
“I can’t rest now… what if someone needs me?”
One Saturday morning, Tara woke up with a long list of things to do. Her younger sister needed her. Her neighbour called for help. A church friend wanted a favour. She rushed from place to place until her legs could hardly hold her weight.
By evening, just as she lifted a pot in the kitchen, everything around her spun. The pot slipped from her hands, and she collapsed to the floor.
She heard faint voices…
“Tara! Wake up!”
“Call the doctor!”
As she drifted in and out of consciousness, she remembered the words her grandmother had told her a month ago:
Tara, when you don’t rest, your body will force you to.
Even God rested.
Who are you trying to be stronger than your Creator?
Tara had laughed it off then. But now, lying helpless on the cold floor, her grandmother’s words felt like truth wrapped in warning.
Hours later at the clinic, the doctor said gently,
“You’re not sick… you’re exhausted. Your body shut down because you never give it permission to rest.”
That night, as Tara lay quietly on a hospital bed, tears rolled down her cheeks.
She finally understood:
Rest was not weakness.
Rest was worship.
Rest was obedience.
And God had been speaking—she simply refused to listen.
Many people today are collapsing emotionally, physically, and spiritually because they refuse to rest. They give their strength to everything except themselves… and forget that the God who created them rested too.
Rest is not an option.
It is a command.
It is a spiritual discipline.
It is an act of trust—proof that you believe the world will not fall apart if you pause.
When the body speaks, listen before it shouts.
KEY SCRIPTURE:
Mark 6:31 — “Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, Jesus said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’”
PRAYER POINTS
Lord, help me to recognize the signs when my mind, body, and spirit need rest.
Father, break every unhealthy pattern of overworking, overthinking, or overcommitting.
Lord, teach me to rest as an act of faith, trusting that You hold all things together—not me.
