CHAPTER 38 “CORDELIA”

Father Soji stretched beside me, smugness still on his face. His arm wrapped around me as though he had conquered a nation. His breath slowed, his chest rising and falling. He thought he was the boss.

The lord. The untouchable. But if only he knew…power had changed hands. For the first time since I entered this hell, I realized it: every powerful man is nothing but a little ant on the bed of a woman. I turned to face him…he was still fast asleep… Even great men sleep.

I stared at his face as sleep swallowed him. His mouth
slackened. His eyelids drooped. And in that moment, he looked small. So small. I wondered who he really was. Was he a devil incarnate? Was he a demon? Or a human who the devil possessed?

My tears had not stopped running. Tears poured out on it’s own. Cordelia’s face still flashing before me. My chest still ached with Cordelia’s betrayal cry. But under the grief, another fire had begun to burn. As I kept staring at him…Suddenly, I remembered Jael. A woman without an army, without weapons of war.

Yet with nothing but a cup of milk and a tent peg, she brought down Sisera, the commander of a mighty army (Judges 4:21). Then I remembered the infamous Delilah we all hated. Her sweet talk. Her persistence. Her soft voice that broke Samson, the man lions feared, until he became weak as a child on her laps…on her bed. (Judges 16:19)

And then I thought of Esther. Patient. Tactical. Dining with
Haman twice before lowering the noose around his neck. Jael. Delilah. Esther. Three women. Three strategies. All powerful.

And here I was, lying beside my own Haman, my own Sisera, my own Samson. His breath deepened. He shifted slightly, cuddling me tighter, unaware that the embrace he thought was conquest had become his undoing. I wiped the last of my tears and whispered inside:

“Lord, let me be Your weapon. Let me use the wisdom of thebwomen in Scripture to win this war. Let me be Jael with a cup of milk and an unseen tent peg, Let me be Delilah with a soft word that is sharper than any sword, Let me be Esther with a banquet.

Let me be everything You need me to be until this man falls. I have lost Cordelia, let me gain many Cordelias for you from this place.” I stared at him again. His body relaxed, his lips parted.

He slept like a baby, but all I could see was the gallows waiting for him. “Sleep, Father,” I whispered in my heart. “Sleep while you can.

For your end is closer than you think.” And as his snores filled the room, I lay awake, not as his captive anymore, but as his executioner-in-waiting. But like a flash, his eyes opened…
“Why are you staring at me like that?”
