WORDS THAT CANNOT RETURN
A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

Rolake was known for one thing, she “never kept things in.”
She wore it like a badge of honor.
“If I feel it, I say it,” she would proudly declare.
Arguments? She would speak.
Misunderstandings? She would unload.
Offense? She would pour everything out, raw and unfiltered.
To her, silence meant weakness.
Until the day her words caused damage she could not undo.
Her sister-in-law, Bisi, was already battling health challenges and emotional stress. She was reserved, protective of her space, and often misunderstood by the family. Many felt hurt by her attitude, but they chose to stay quiet.
One afternoon, tension erupted over something small food in the kitchen. Harsh words were exchanged.
Rolake felt insulted and humiliated.
And instead of walking away…
she decided to “bare it all.”
She didn’t just respond, she attacked.
She repeated private conversations.
She exposed secrets shared in confidence.
She used painful truths as weapons.
She said things she knew would wound deeply.
The room fell silent after her outburst.
Bisi walked away in tears.
Hours later, tragedy struck not because of physical violence, but because emotional wounds can be just as destructive. The situation escalated beyond what anyone expected. Families were broken. Relationships shattered. Legal consequences followed.
Rolake would later sit alone and replay that moment over and over.
If only she had paused.
If only she had swallowed the words.
If only she had chosen restraint.
But words, once released, cannot be retrieved.
Not every truth must be spoken.
Not every emotion must be expressed immediately.
Not every thought deserves a voice.
The Bible says:
“Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.” — Proverbs 29:11
Self-control is not weakness.
It is strength under control.
There are battles you win by silence.
There are relationships you preserve by restraint.
There are destinies you protect by closing your mouth.
Before you “bare it all,”
ask yourself, Will these words build, or will they break?
KEY SCRIPTURE:
Proverbs 18:21 – “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”
PRAYER POINTS:
Lord, help me control my tongue in moments of anger.
Father, teach me to pause before I speak.
Lord, let my words bring life, healing, and wisdom — not destruction.
