‘WHEN THE DOOR SHUTS’

A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

As Inspired by the Living Word

Kunle had always been the life of the party. His friends nicknamed him “Mr. Unlimited Grace” because no matter how reckless he lived, he still showed up in church, lifted his hands in worship, and quoted scriptures.

“God understands,” he’d say with a smirk after another night of drinking and sleeping around.
“His mercy is new every morning.”

But one rainy Friday evening, while rushing to meet up with friends, Kunle’s car skidded on the wet highway. Within seconds, everything went dark.

The next thing he saw was not flashing ambulance lights, but a blinding throne surrounded by glory. He knew instantly: this was not a dream.

A mighty voice thundered:
“Depart from Me, you worker of iniquity. I never knew you.” (Matthew 7:23)

Kunle tried to speak. He tried to explain. He even quoted the scriptures he had memorized, but it was too late.
The door of mercy had shut.

This story is not to scare you, but to remind you: Grace is not a license to sin.

Yes, God is merciful. Yes, His arms are wide open. But death is unpredictable, and once it comes, the chance to repent ends.

Like the foolish virgins in Matthew 25, many live carelessly, assuming there will always be more time. But when the bridegroom came, the door was shut.

Friend, today is the day of salvation. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Don’t gamble with eternity.

KEY SCRIPTURE:

📖 “Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near.”
— Isaiah 55:6

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, I don’t want to live recklessly with the grace You’ve given me. Help me to turn away from deliberate sin. Teach me to value Your mercy while I still have breath. On that day, may I be welcomed into Your presence, not banished. Amen.

The question is not whether death will come, but when.
Will you be welcomed or shut out when the door closes?
