THE LONE TREE

A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

Ayo loved doing things by himself.

Group assignments frustrated him. Asking for help felt like a weakness. Seeking advice? That was for people who didn’t know what they were doing.

Whenever his friends offered suggestions, he would smile politely and continue with his own plans.

“I know what I’m doing,” he would often say.

One day, Ayo decided to start a small poultry business. He spent months researching online, watching videos, and making plans. Confident in his knowledge, he ignored the advice of older farmers in his community.

“They are doing things the old-fashioned way,” he thought.

Within a few months, disease broke out among his birds. Many died. Expenses piled up. Discouraged, he visited an elderly farmer nearby to seek help.

The old man listened quietly and then took Ayo outside.

Pointing to a large tree standing alone in an open field, he asked, “What do you see?”

“A tree,” Ayo replied.

Then the farmer pointed to a cluster of trees growing together near a stream.

“And what do you see there?”

“A group of trees.”

The old man smiled.

“When strong winds come, the lone tree carries the full force of the storm by itself. But trees growing together protect one another. Their roots strengthen the soil around them, and they survive storms better.”

The lesson struck Ayo immediately.

For years, he had been living like the lone tree.

He wanted success without advice.
Progress without correction.
Wisdom without counsel.

From that day forward, Ayo began to listen. He sought godly mentors, learned from experienced people, and welcomed wise correction.

And his life became stronger because of it.

God never designed us to journey through life alone.

Even the wisest kings had counselors.
Even great leaders had advisers.
Even Moses needed Aaron and Hur to support his hands.

The person who refuses godly counsel limits how far they can go.

Humility listens.
Wisdom learns.
Destiny grows through the right relationships.

KEY SCRIPTURE:
Proverbs 11:14 – “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.”

PRAYER POINTS:

Lord, deliver me from pride that makes me reject wise counsel.
Father, surround me with godly people who will speak truth and wisdom into my life.
Lord, help me to discern and follow counsel that aligns with Your will for my life.
