THE HANDS THAT RAISED YOU

A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

Timi had become so caught up with the hustle of adulthood that he barely noticed how long it had been since he visited home. His mother often called just to hear his voice, and his father would ask the same gentle question, “When will you come and see us?”

He always replied, “Soon, Baba… soon,” but soon never came.

One evening, while scrolling through photos on his phone, he stumbled on an old picture of his father teaching him how to ride a bicycle. Another of his mother praying over him before school. He felt a sting in his heart, the people who once poured everything into him were now living on memories.

That weekend, something pushed him to travel home. When he walked in unexpectedly, his mother’s eyes filled with tears. His father hugged him tightly, whispering, “You came…”

Timi cooked for them, fixed things around the house, and bought them small surprise gifts. The joy on their faces was priceless, pure, childlike, overflowing.

As he prepared to leave, his father held his hands and prayed a blessing over him, words so powerful, they felt like they came straight from heaven. Peace followed him for weeks, and doors opened with ease.

That was when he understood:
The hands that raised you carry blessings your life still needs.

Some people invest everything in looking good, buying luxuries, and “enjoying life,” yet forget the aged ones who once sacrificed their comfort to give them a future.

Whether your parents are wealthy or struggling, young or old, your care, your honor, your kindness still matter. Their blessings are not tied to their riches; they come from the depth of a grateful heart.

Those who honor the aged walk under an uncommon grace.

KEY SCRIPTURE:
Deuteronomy 5:16 – “Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”

PRAYER POINTS:

Lord, give me a grateful heart that remembers those who raised, guided, or mentored me.

Father, help me to show love, honor, and care to my aged parents, guardians, or spiritual leaders.

Lord, let the blessings released from their mouths manifest in my life and future generations.
