THE DOOR SHE KEPT REOPENING
A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

As Inspired by the LIVING WORD
Ope had a habit she couldn’t explain.
Every time life became difficult, she would run back to the very thing that had wounded her.
Months earlier, she had finally walked away from a toxic group of friends. They were constantly dragging her into gossip, unhealthy lifestyles, and choices that left her feeling empty and guilty.
When she left, her life changed.
Her prayer life improved.
She became happier.
She found peace.
For the first time in years, she felt free.
But one lonely weekend, her phone buzzed.
“Hey stranger! We miss you. Come hang out with us tonight.”
Ope stared at the message.
She knew where the invitation would lead.
She knew the conversations that would happen.
She knew the regrets that would follow.
Yet she convinced herself, “It’s just one night.”
One night became another.
Then another.
Within weeks, she found herself trapped in the same cycle she had once escaped.
One evening, after returning home emotionally drained, she sat on her bed and cried.
“Lord, why do I keep ending up here?”
As she prayed, a simple thought settled in her heart:
“Because you keep reopening doors I helped you close.”
The words pierced her.
God had already given her freedom.
He had already shown her a better path.
But she kept returning to what He had delivered her from.
That night, Ope made a decision.
She deleted numbers.
She left unhealthy groups.
She replaced old habits with godly ones.
It wasn’t easy.
Some days she was tempted to go back.
But each time she remembered the pain that door had brought into her life, she chose differently.
Months later, she looked back and smiled.
The chains that once controlled her had lost their power.
Not because temptation disappeared, But because she finally stopped reopening the door.
Many people pray for deliverance but keep returning to the very things they were delivered from.
God can free you from destructive habits, unhealthy relationships, and sinful patterns.
But you must cooperate with that freedom.
Don’t keep revisiting places, people, and behaviors that repeatedly leave you wounded.
With the help of the Holy Spirit, you can build new habits and a new future.
KEY SCRIPTURE:
Galatians 5:1 – “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
PRAYER POINTS:
