‘DON’T KILL ABEL!’
A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

I remember the day Shola unfollowed her childhood friend, Titi, on all platforms.
“I’m just tired of all her ‘perfect life’ posts,” she muttered.
From the outside, it looked like jealousy, but if we’re being honest, many of us have been where Shola was.
Titi had just celebrated 10 years of a blissful marriage, opened her second business branch, and launched a parenting podcast that went viral. Meanwhile, Shola was still waiting on a job offer, healing from a breakup, and watching her savings shrink.
But what Shola didn’t know was this: while she was out every weekend, Titi had spent her 20s fasting, learning, saving, and sowing into her future.
Titi wasn’t lucky, she had paid the price.
Many of us envy the “Abels” in our lives, the ones whose sacrifices are being honoured by God. But just like Cain, instead of asking “What did they do right?”, we brood in bitterness, scroll with resentment, and speak ill of what we do not understand.
Let’s be honest:
– When they were praying, we were sleeping.
– When they were fasting, we were feasting.
– When they were sowing, we were snapping.
God told Cain something powerful when He saw the jealousy brewing in him.
“If you do what is right, will you not be accepted?” – Genesis 4:7
Abel gave his best; Cain gave some.
Abel gave from faith; Cain gave from routine.
Abel honoured God; Cain just ticked a box.
Don’t kill Abel with your attitude, your bitterness, your silence, your gossip.
Instead, sit with Abel. Learn from Abel. Let their success ignite your discipline.
Because envy can drive you from God’s presence, and if unchecked, it can drive you mad.
KEY SCRIPTURE:
“If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door…”
— Genesis 4:7 (NIV)
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, deliver me from every hidden seed of envy or bitterness in my heart.
2. Father, teach me to honour those who have paid the price, help me learn from them.
3. Give me the grace to offer You my best, not just what’s convenient.
