DON’T DROP THE SPOON!

Amaka had just gained admission into one of the top universities in the country. Excited and hopeful, she set off with dreams of excellence. But by the second semester, the fire began to dwindle. Her grades were average, her health was challenged, and financially, things were hard back home.

One evening, in the campus dining hall, she sat alone stirring her bowl of watery pap with a rusted spoon. “This is not the life I imagined,” she muttered, tired of everything. She was just about to stand up and dump the food when an elderly cleaner walked past and said, “Don’t drop the spoon. If you hold on long enough, better meals will come.”

It seemed like a random statement, but it pierced her heart.

Amaka took it as a word from God. She wiped her tears and kept going.
She showed up for lectures even when her slippers were worn thin. She studied harder. Prayed more. Confessed God’s promises. Applied for every scholarship and internship she could find.

Fast forward two years, Amaka was on a full international exchange scholarship in Europe, all because she didn’t give up when she wanted to throw everything away.

We all hit hard seasons where it seems easier to quit than to press on. But just like Jacob in Genesis 32, who refused to let go of the angel until his story changed, you too must refuse to “drop the spoon.”
The angel said, “Let me go, for the day is breaking,” but Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” (Gen. 32:26)

That is the power of persistent determination, tenacity.

Even when Jacob was tricked into marrying Leah in Genesis 29, he didn’t abandon his original goal. He kept working until Rachel became his. That kind of focus is rare, but it is what heaven honours.

In life, people may rise to help, but they’re most moved when they see your seriousness, your grit. Don’t fold your hands. Don’t fold your dreams. Don’t drop the spoon.

PRAYER:
Lord, grant me grace to be tenacious in pursuing the dreams You have planted in my heart. Even when it’s tough, let me not give up halfway. Help me hold on until my change comes, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
