WHEN WORDS BECOME WEAPONS
A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

Everyone who knew Rola knew one thing about her, she spoke her mind.
She often laughed and said proudly,
“I don’t bottle things up. I bare it all.”
Whenever there was an argument or misunderstanding, Rola poured out every thought, every feeling, every opinion in her heart. She believed silence was weakness and speaking everything was strength.
But one afternoon, her habit would cost more than she ever imagined.
Rola went to visit her brother and his wife, Bisi. When she entered the kitchen, she saw a pot of soup on the stove with two pieces of meat left. Feeling hungry, she took one and served herself.
Moments later, Bisi walked in.
Seeing the pot, she burst out in anger.
“Who is the glutton that doesn’t have sense?” she shouted loudly. “How can someone see only two pieces of meat left and still eat one?”
Her voice echoed through the house, loud enough for Rola to hear from the sitting room.
That was the moment something snapped inside her.
All the things the family had quietly ignored about Bisi…
All the complaints whispered in private…
All the hurt feelings they had chosen to hide…
Rola decided she would no longer keep quiet.
She marched into the kitchen and unleashed every bitter word she had ever heard or thought.
The room fell silent after her outburst.
Bisi said nothing. She quietly walked into the bedroom and locked the door.
By evening, the house was surrounded by neighbors and police officers.
Bisi had taken her own life.
Rola stood frozen in shock as the weight of what had happened slowly settled in. Words spoken in anger had become a weapon she could never take back.
Later, during the court proceedings, the evidence was clear. Cameras in the house had recorded the confrontation.
The judge looked at Rola and said calmly,
“Only fools vent out all their feelings, but the wise hold them back.”
At that moment, Rola understood something too late:
Not every thought deserves a voice.
Words are powerful.
They can heal hearts, or they can destroy lives.
Wisdom is not saying everything you feel.
Wisdom is knowing what to say, when to say it, and when to remain silent.
KEY SCRIPTURE:
Proverbs 29:11 – “Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.”
PRAYER POINTS:
