‘WHEN THE WALLET RUNS DRY’

A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

Tolu sat on the edge of his bed, staring at the final reminder letter from his landlord. Rent was due in 5 days, and his account balance mocked him with ₦2,350.

“I’m finished,” he muttered. “Maybe I should just pack out quietly before the embarrassment.”

Later that evening, during Bible study, his pastor read aloud:

“The ravens brought Elijah bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening…” (1 Kings 17:6)

Tolu chuckled under his breath. “Even Elijah had days of lack. But God sent food from birds?”

He remembered how Jesus, too, faced financial pressure when asked for temple tax—but provision came from the mouth of a fish. (Matthew 17:27)

Something clicked. Lack wasn’t the end of the story. God always had a way.

That same week, an old client who had ignored his calls for months suddenly reached out and paid double what he was owed. Not only did Tolu pay his rent, but he also helped a friend in need.

Friend, being broke doesn’t mean being abandoned. Even God’s servants, Elijah, Peter, and yes, Jesus—faced moments when the wallet ran dry. But each time, heaven responded with unusual provision.

Your rent, school fees, wedding bill, or business capital may look impossible, but God’s supply is never late. He can bring help from unexpected places, through people, opportunities, or even miracles that don’t make sense.

Don’t give in to despair. Don’t let shame push you to hopelessness. Lift your eyes. If He fed Elijah with birds and settled Jesus’ tax with a fish, He will surely meet your needs too.
