‘WHEN THE DOOR WON’T OPEN…’

Tolu stood in front of the elevator again. Same floor. Same time. Same wait.

She had been pressing the button for almost ten minutes, hoping it would eventually open and take her to the top floor. But nothing. People who came after her took the stairs. Some gave up and left. A few rolled their eyes and whispered, “She’s still here?”

Tolu stayed.

It wasn’t just about a lift anymore. It was symbolic of her life.

Five years post-graduation, still no solid job. Three major relationships gone. Two businesses crashed. And here she was again… waiting for something, anything to lift.

She sighed, “Lord, will this ever change? Will the doors ever open?”

And then something unusual happened. A security officer passed by and said, “Ma, this elevator shuts down every hour for safety. It reboots after ten minutes.”

And just as he said that, with a little hum and a blink, the doors slid open.

She stood frozen, not just in awe of the elevator, but at what God had just told her through it:

“I don’t shut things down to delay you. I do it to protect you. And when it’s time, it will open effortlessly.”

Sometimes what feels like divine silence is actually divine protection. You’re not stuck. You’re preserved. You’re not being denied; you’re being shielded until the right time.

Just like Noah’s dove that returned to the ark when the earth wasn’t ready…
Just like Joseph who stayed in prison until Pharaoh had a dream…
Just like Tolu who waited in front of an elevator that was rebooting…

There’s a reason the door hasn’t opened yet.
But it will.

Don’t walk away just because others found different routes. Yours is being perfectly timed.

Hold on. Your floor is coming.

Scripture Reference:
Genesis 8 (The Ark & the Dove)
Habakkuk 2:3 – “Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to trust Your timing, especially when I feel stuck. Teach me to wait with confidence, knowing that delay is not denial. And when the door opens, may it be with grace, ease, and divine speed. Amen.
