WHEN SERVICE REPLACES INTIMACY

A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

Damilola was deeply committed to the work of God.
Everyone knew her as “the dependable one.”

She coordinated prayer meetings, managed church programs, led Bible study groups, and still volunteered in the media department. Her schedule was full of kingdom activities from morning till night.

People admired her passion.
But secretly, her soul was tired.

One morning, after another exhausting week, Damilola sat on the edge of her bed staring blankly at her Bible. It had been opened many times for teaching others, but not for personal fellowship.

She couldn’t remember the last time she sat quietly with God, not to prepare a sermon, not to lead a prayer, not to organize an event but simply to be with Him.

That morning, she tried to pray, but the words felt empty.
Tears rolled down her cheeks as she whispered,
“Lord, why do I feel so far from You while doing so much for You?”

Then gently, a thought settled in her heart:

“Martha was busy serving Me, but Mary chose what mattered most.
I never asked you to replace fellowship with activity.”

Damilola froze.

For the first time in a long while, she realized that she had become so occupied with serving God that she had neglected spending time with Him.

God wanted her service, yes but even more, He wanted her heart.

That day, Damilola made a decision. Before every assignment, before every meeting, before every responsibility, she would prioritize intimacy with God.

And slowly, the dryness disappeared.
Her prayers became alive again.
Her worship became personal again.
Her service stopped feeling like pressure and started flowing from love once more.

She learned a lesson she would never forget:
God does not just want workers.
He wants children who know how to sit with Him.

Service is beautiful, but fellowship is essential.
You can be busy doing things for God while neglecting time with God.

The greatest gift you can offer Him is not your activity, it is your presence.

Don’t let ministry replace intimacy.
Don’t let service silence fellowship.

KEY SCRIPTURE:
Luke 10:42 – “Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

PRAYER POINTS:

Lord, help me never to become so busy serving You that I neglect fellowshipping with You.
Father, restore intimacy and freshness in my relationship with You.
Lord, let my service flow from love and genuine communion with You.
