WHEN PEOPLE ARE NOT MEANT TO STAY

A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

Amara used to love deeply.
Too deeply, perhaps.

Whenever someone entered her life, she gave them her whole heart. Friends, relationships, mentors,ql she held onto people tightly, hoping they would remain forever.

But somehow, they always drifted away.

Some stopped calling.
Some changed suddenly.
Some simply outgrew the connection.

And each goodbye left Amara questioning herself.

“Why do people always leave?”
“Am I too much?”
“Why can’t anyone stay?”

The pain became so heavy that she began praying about it with tears.

One evening after a fellowship meeting, an elderly woman walked up to her gently and said,

“My daughter, you have been carrying the weight of disappearing people, haven’t you?”

Amara froze.

The woman smiled kindly and opened her Bible.

“Read this,” she said softly.

“All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field. The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God endures forever.” Isaiah 40:6–8

Amara read the verse again and again.

Then the woman explained:

“People are humans, not anchors.
Some are seasonal.
Some are lessons.
Some are blessings for a moment.

Flowers are beautiful, but they do not bloom forever.
Only God remains constant.
If you build your life entirely around people, disappointment will shake you.
But when your roots go deep into God, He sends the right people into your life at the right time.”

Something shifted inside Amara that day.

Instead of desperately chasing people, she began chasing God. She prayed more, healed more, and rested more in His love. And strangely, as she grew closer to Him, healthier relationships began to find her naturally.

She learned that humans may fade like flowers,
but God never does.

Not everyone who enters your life is meant to stay forever.
Some people are seasons, not permanent residences.

Do not build your identity on human consistency.
People change.
People leave.
People fail.

But God’s Word remains steady through every changing season of life.

Anchor yourself in Him.
The right people will come, and the right ones meant to stay will be sustained by His hand.

KEY SCRIPTURE:
Isaiah 40:8 – “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

PRAYER POINTS:

Lord, help me to anchor my heart in You and not completely in people.
Father, heal every wound caused by disappointment and loss.
Lord, connect me with relationships that align with Your purpose for my life.
