THE YOKE THAT BROKE ME
A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

As Inspired by the LIVING WORD
From the outside, it looked like a dream.
He was charming, confident, well-built,
the kind of man people admired from a distance.
Being with him made me feel protected, envied, chosen.
But behind the admiration was a quiet unrest in my spirit.
A warning I kept ignoring.
A law I kept breaking.
My name is Eniola, and my husband’s name was Daniel.
He carried a good name, but he did not carry God.
He was an unbeliever, firm in his disbelief, proud of it.
Yet I convinced myself love was enough.
I silenced the Holy Spirit.
I chose feelings over obedience.
The first night of our marriage revealed the truth I had refused to face.
The gentleness I expected was absent.
The man I married was not guided by reverence, restraint, or fear of God.
What followed was fear, pain, control, and isolation.
He moved us far away from everyone who knew me.
No accountability.
No covering.
No help nearby.
Each day, I watched myself fade, emotionally, spiritually, physically.
I stayed because of apologies.
I stayed because of hope.
I stayed because I believed love could change him.
But love without God has no boundaries.
When help finally came, it came violently and unexpectedly and by then, I had already lost too much.
My peace.
My safety.
My child.
As I lay on the hospital bed later, with my body weak and my heart shattered, one truth screamed louder than my pain:
I was warned.
I broke a spiritual law.
And spiritual laws don’t bend for emotions.
“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers…”
Light cannot partner with darkness.
Not in marriage.
Not in destiny.
This is my cry to every Christian single:
Love is not enough.
Attraction is not confirmation.
A good name is not godliness.
Marriage is not a mission field.
You don’t marry to convert.
You marry to build together, under God.
Don’t be mismatched.
Your life is too precious for that gamble.
KEY SCRIPTURE:
2 Corinthians 6:14 –
“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?”
PRAYER POINTS:
Lord, give me discernment to recognize Your will above my emotions.
Father, deliver me from every relationship that will destroy my destiny.
Lord, help me to obey You completely, even when obedience is difficult.
