THE DEPARTURE OF GLORY

“I used to have it all,” Rita said, staring at the divorce papers in her hand. “Once, my marriage was filled with joy, but one moment of weakness and I find myself in this mess.” The regret in her voice was palpable.

She had come to her friends for support, but it seemed that none of them had been immune to the same fate. Eva, the once radiant beauty, now bore the marks of years of carelessness. Melody, a woman whose voice once captivated hearts, was now mute, her gifts stripped away. And Ifeanyi, who seemed to have everything; wealth, status was now drowning in the consequences of his choices.

Their stories all echoed the same theme: *sin had stolen their glory. The lives they once led in grace and favor had been reduced to mere shadows of their former selves. Ichabod—the departure of God’s glory had set in.

In the book of 1 Samuel, we read about the tragic departure of God’s glory from Israel. The ark of the covenant, the symbol of God’s presence, was taken, and the glory left the nation. But the tragedy didn’t stop there. Ichabod was born, named after the glory that had departed.

We must recognize when God’s glory is no longer with us, and instead of shifting blame, we should humble ourselves, repent, and seek His mercy. For only through genuine repentance can we see restoration.
