A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

Fejiro stood quietly as her sister, Amaka, stepped out of her husband’s brand-new SUV. They had both come home for their father’s anniversary celebration.
“Where una dey get this kind money?” Fejiro thought to herself.
Amaka was glowing, new clothes, new phone, and cash to spare. She handed every child in the compound a crisp ₦1,000 note.
“In this economy?” Fejiro muttered under her breath. “Which work this her husband dey do?”
The celebration went well, but Fejiro’s heart wasn’t settled. Something about it all didn’t sit right with her spirit.
As she prepared to leave in her old, faithful car, their father called her aside.
“Fejiro,” he said gently, “no envy people wey dey live anyhow. Fear God. That one get future.”
She nodded, not fully understanding at the time.
Months later, life unfolded its own lesson. Amaka suddenly became ill. The sickness resisted treatment. Doctors were confused. During prayer, the truth surfaced her husband had gone into dark dealings for quick wealth, and the cost was life. The one who spent the money most would lose their health first.
Amaka was generous.
Amaka was lavish.
Amaka paid the price.
She didn’t survive.
At her graveside, as Fejiro poured sand on her sister’s coffin, her father’s words echoed again clearer than ever:
“Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord. There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.”
Not every wealth is blessing.
Not every success is God’s approval.
Some money comes with chains.
Some riches carry sorrow.
Some breakthroughs are traps.
It is better to be slow and safe than fast and destroyed.
It is better to walk in integrity than run in compromise.
Fear God.
Trust His timing.
Your future is worth more than sudden wealth.
KEY SCRIPTURE:
