DON’T LET THE HOLY SPIRIT WALK AWAY
A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

As Inspired by the LIVING WORD
Tomi sat at the edge of her bed, tears streaming down her face. She could feel it that emptiness, that silence. Once upon a time, she would sense His presence so strongly that even in the middle of the night, His whispers woke her up.
But now, it was quiet.
She remembered when her life was full of light when worship flowed easily, when every prayer felt like a conversation, and when peace was her closest friend. But somewhere along the line, little compromises crept in: the lies, the gossip, the bitterness she refused to let go of.
Now, He was packing up… not because He stopped loving her, but because her actions kept pushing Him away.
She fell on her knees, crying, “Please… don’t go. I can’t do this without You. I’ve tasted what life feels like without You, it’s empty and dark. Please… stay back.”
In Genesis 18:22, when the three heavenly visitors came to Abraham, two of them left but the Lord stayed back to talk with him. It was during that sacred moment that God revealed His plans to Abraham about Sodom and Gomorrah.
That “stay back” moment changed everything, it gave Abraham the chance to intercede and save his nephew Lot.
Friend, that’s what happens when the Holy Spirit stays with you. He reveals things that preserve destinies. But when you grieve Him through disobedience or indifference, His presence withdraws quietly.
Maybe you’ve noticed lately that your joy is gone.
Maybe your dreams have become cloudy.
Maybe you pray, but it feels like the heavens are closed.
It’s not that God has abandoned you. He’s just waiting for you to say, “Lord, please come back and stay.”
The Holy Spirit is not a temporary visitor. He’s a friend who desires a permanent residence in your heart. But just like every relationship, He needs your attention, your reverence, and your obedience.
When He stays, you experience clarity, guidance, and peace beyond human understanding.
When He leaves, confusion and emptiness take over.
So today, stop whatever keeps you distant from Him.
Rebuild that friendship.
Invite Him again… and this time, don’t let Him walk away.
