CHAPTER THREE “CONVINCED”
©️ Opeyemi Akintunde
As inspired by the DEEP ONE
I couldn’t!
I couldn’t stand his body touching mine.
I couldn’t even imagine Teju as a husband.
The moment we got into the exquisite suite my mum had booked for the night … the one for couples to “bond” before travelling for their honeymoon in the morning …my whole body went stiff.
Teju walked into the room like he was walking on eggshells.
The bed looked like a slaughter table.
We both looked at it… and quickly looked away.
I sat on one of the sofas, intentionally gluing my eyes to my phone. Notifications were everywhere. Friends and family had tagged me on countless photos.
“God When!”
“Dream Wedding!”
“Clock it! Mr & Mrs Adejumo!”
“A match made in heaven!”
If only they knew.
As I kept pretending to be too busy to think, I noticed Teju removing his tie… his shoes… his belt.
My heart started racing.
What on earth was he trying to do?
Was he going to force his way through?
Not on my watch!
I already positioned my leg subtly, ready to employ the little self-defense I had learnt.
But to my surprise, he didn’t come near me.
He walked past me and sat on the sofa opposite me.
And then… he stared.
He stared.
And I stared.
It was a staring match … pure silence, pure tension.
We didn’t need to speak.
Our eyes were doing all the talking.
My eyes said: “Don’t you dare.”
His eyes said: “So this is how we’re spending our first night?”
We stared for five minutes. I kid you not, it was that long.
Teju was too patient.
That night, I decided to match his patience.
Finally, he broke the silence.
“Imade,” he said quietly.
“No. It’s not happening,” I replied with finality.
“Can we talk about it?” he asked with a soft voice but I could hear frustrated self-control beneath that voice…
“There is nothing to talk about.” I answered
I stood up and went to the box my mother had packed for me.
The moment I opened it, I almost fainted.
Lubricants.
Body oils.
A very not so modest lingerie.
“Who is wearing this??”
I almost screamed.
I quickly checked the second box and found casuals.
Even the casuals were dangerously casual … the type that could give a man ideas.
But right then, all I needed was a hot shower and sleep.
That was exactly what I did.
Without thinking about my “roommate,” I showered, wore one of the casuals, and slept off.
****
TEJU’S POV
She slept off.
Just like that.
How callous!
My name is Teju, and though I may win the award for “Most Cheerful Human Being Alive,” I have my inner struggles. I have emotions too.
I have loved Imade for as long as I can remember.
I don’t know whether it was because my parents always said she was “my woman,”
or if it was genuine affection.
Maybe it was both.
Maybe it was conditioning.
Maybe it was destiny.
But one thing I know about myself is this:
I am loyal … sometimes to a fault.
So sometimes I ask myself…
What I feel for Imade…
Is it love?
Or loyalty?
Dear reader,
Which one do you think it is?

I pray Teju will get it right and not let the agony of legal sex denial control his actions
What is loyalty without love?
If only imade knew that what she was looking for could be gotten through patience with her newly wedded husband.
Next please.🥺

Poor guy!
What? This is too much from Imade to Teju. I can’t wait to see how events in the story will unfold. More inspiration ma.
Hmmm. Speechless
Hnmm, this is on suspense.
Obviously, that love isn’t genuine but on parents decisions. Let’s not jump into conclusion 🤭
We await the next phase

Poor guy! Love and loyalty are the same o. You can’t be truly loyal without love. The only thing is that loyalty does not require romantic love.
Love it is
Both! How would this one-sided love is going to work?
Mummy I love you so much
I think he made up his mind to Love her because of his parents decisions.
It can be Love and the same time be loyalty.

If you love someone and you aren’t loyal you don’t love the person at all do you know what it means to get cheated on
