CHAPTER 30 – THIS FAMILY CALLED MINE: COLOUR US UP

Aunty Favour asked my sisters to guide me to a chair. I was literally shaking. What I had seen…the wickedness, the selfishness, the parenting soaked in selfishness and darkness…left me numb.

If I could kill my father a second time, I would have done it in that moment.
No wonder our lives lacked colour.
My father had drained every drop of it from us.

The beauty, the brilliance, the virtues we were born with…he had taken them to make his life bearable.

“Our father was wicked!” I screamed.

I narrated all I had seen, and one after the other, my sisters withdrew from me and fell to the floor, weeping bitterly.

“I remember catching Stepmom with Morayo’s pad once,” Setemi sobbed. “She said she wanted to help dispose of it well.”

Pamilerin said nothing. Her tears flowed silently.

But when she finally spoke, her words cut deep.

“I’m smart… I know I am. I should be a global face. A thought leader. But every time I try to further my studies or grow beyond my current level, I hit a roadblock. Something always shuts the door.”

Aunty Favour raised her hand, silencing our grief with her calm authority.

“Calm down, ladies. There’s something I know about God. No matter what has been stolen, it can be recovered. Regardless of who stole it…dead or alive…God is able to restore all you have lost.”

She walked over and took her Bible.

“Your father’s story reminds me of a man in scripture. Open to 2 Kings 20:17–19.”

As we scrolled through our phones, she continued, “Let me give you a backstory. King Hezekiah had just recovered from a terminal illness, but afterward, he made a mistake by exposing all his treasures to foreign visitors. God sent the prophet Isaiah to pronounce judgment…his descendants would suffer for that mistake.”

We read together: “Isaiah said to Hezekiah, ‘Listen to this message from the LORD: The time is coming when everything in your palace…all the treasures stored up by your ancestors until now…will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD. Some of your very own sons will be taken away into exile. They will become eunuchs who will serve in the palace of Babylon’s king.’

Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, ‘This message you have given me from the LORD is good.’ For the king was thinking, ‘At least there will be peace and security during my lifetime.’”

Aunty Favour sighed deeply.
“That king was selfish. He was happy because the punishment wouldn’t touch him. That’s the same mindset your father had…chasing his own comfort without minding what would become of his children.”

We went silent.

“What do we do now?” I asked, my voice shaking.

“We will call upon the God of Abraham , Isaac and Jacob,” Aunty Favour said firmly. “The One who can add colour to a colourless life. Your father traded with your today. But we will go into the spiritual realm and retrieve your virtues.”

My sisters looked unsure, but I had followed Aunty Favour online, long enough to know her methods were grounded in scripture and spiritual truth.

“Sisters, trust me,” I said, turning to them. “Whatever she asks us to do…prayers, declarations, assignments…we must follow through.”

Aunty Favour smiled gently. “Don’t worry. I won’t ask you to do anything strange, like going to your father’s grave. All we’ll do is pray. And what is prayer? Speaking life into being. Declaring with your mouth what you want God to do for you and letting the authority of Jesus back it up.”

“Okay, ma…” Setemi nodded slowly.

Aunty Favour straightened.

“Are you ready to pray?”

“Yes!” we chorused, our voices trembling…but ready.
