CHAPTER 20 “CORDELIA”

They turned my immediate surrender into a wedding.

I never said “I do.” I never walked down an aisle. In one breath, Father Soji declared me a bride, and the whole hall shouted as if God Himself had come to join us together. There was no music, no vows, no genuine joy … only oil on my head, chants in the air, and my heart breaking.

I cried like a baby. I couldn’t hold it in. My wedding …. the one I had prayed for, the one I thought would be holy and pure… was snatched from me. And worse, I knew what weddings meant here. They ended in a bed. They ended in a night. That thought made my tears run faster.

They brought a throne-like chair, just like Father’s, and placed it on the altar. “Sit,” they told me. I obeyed because my legs had no strength. My heart felt heavy. “You will stay here till the end of the vigil,” Father announced. The crowd clapped like they had just witnessed heaven’s greatest miracle. But for me, it was the loudest prison door slamming shut.

At some point I felt so sick, like I was choking inside that hall. I whispered, “Restroom.” Father’s eyes caught mine. For a second, I thought he would say no, but then he nodded and signaled to his PA.

That was when five saints stood up. Five. I didn’t need anyone to explain. They were now my servants, my watchers. They would follow me everywhere. Tears poured from my eyes. Freedom was gone.

They led me out. As we passed the back of the hall, I saw something that almost made my knees give way. One of the Iben Twins … the second one …was lying in something that looked like a coffin. His wife was beside him, splashing water over him, muttering at the same time.

“What’s happening?” I asked in a shaky voice.

“He is ascending,” one of the saints whispered. “At his level, if no one watches over him, he may never return.”

My mouth went dry. Ascending? This wasn’t ascension. This was witchcraft, plain and simple. Satanism, occultism …all hidden under church clothes. My tears kept flowing. The Iben Twins, the so-called men of fire, were nothing but slaves to darkness.

When we got outside, I looked at the gate, hoping … just hoping …I would see a miracle. Maybe a chance to slip away. But my heart sank. The entire fence was covered in red fabric. The gate too. No one outside could see in. No one could know what was happening inside Kairos.

The restroom was just a restroom, nothing special, except for the saints waiting for me outside like bodyguards. I knew then that escape was impossible.

When the vigil finally ended, Father smiled at me. “Walk ahead of me,” he said softly. “Like a gentleman would allow his bride.”

A bride? I felt like a lamb being led to slaughter. Still, I walked. His PA went in front, leading us to a part of Kairos I had never been before … a small private lodge.

When the door opened, I almost gasped. It was the most beautiful room I had ever seen inside the Fold. Bright colors, flowers, cushions, everything soft and feminine. It was a room fit for a queen.

The PA stepped aside for me to enter. Father followed behind me. Then the PA quietly closed the door, leaving the two of us alone.

I stood there crying. Tears poured freely. I couldn’t believe this was happening to me. I had come to help Cordelia. I had come to bring water to a poisoned well. Now, I was the one trapped, the one caged.

Father came closer. His hand touched my shoulder gently. “Relax,” he said. “I am not going to rush you. This is your home now. I know it feels sudden, but destiny chose you. Thank you for aligning with destiny.”

He lifted my hand and kissed it softly.

I wanted to scream. Who just kissed me? Father? Or Soji the man? God, what is happening to me?

  1. If at this time, I am confuse. I have every right to be. The true church outside should take a bold step by reporting the so called confinement church to higher authority (polices or soldiers). This is modern ajale (ritual place). Holding people against their will is wrong.

  2. The suspense is top notch…The storyline is the reflection of what is happening to the youths nowadays. I’ll suggest we adapt this novel into a movie

  3. At this point,I am very speechless

Is Mabel now a sacrificial lamb in the Mission Field?
Let’s have a hint of what’s happening in the Church ma.
Could the prophecy about TJ by the Twin be true to some extent, or just a distraction as to why she was not admitted?
The one who came set the captive free is now in captivity…

  5. Mabel! The bride! Ha God have mercy o! Wedding just like that! What kind of hell on earth is this? I pray he will not sleep with Mabel ooo!

I have a feeling that Soji is probably a victim himself, with that double personality, maybe in a quest to get power, fame, he landed where he is. The real person is Soji, but becomes another being entirely as ‘Father’ when another spirit envelope him

  6. Omo! I’m speechless at this point…
Let’s wait for what God will do here.
