CHAPTER 14 – BATTLE OF THE BRETHREN

Old Prophet, New Games

They brought in Prophet Amos Elijah for the midweek “Fire Refresh” service. I overheard Mama calling a fellow Pastor’s wife asking her to give her the contact of a powerful Man of God who could come refresh the fire in our Church.
To me, it was a matter of pride. T.J’s display of power had revealed the need for fresh fire in the church and they didn’t want it to look like God used a young girl to remind them of what was missing in the church. What I expected was for Daddy G.O to go on a retreat and ask the Lord some questions. Also, they could subject T.J to pass through the different spiritual schools in the church, so she could follow structure even while being a blessing to us in church. This should have been received as a reawakening call, but Mama in particular saw it as belittling for a young girl to be used to set their church on fire.

So Prophet Amos was brought in…This man is not small o.

We’re talking grey beard, white Agbada with shiny embroidery, and a voice that sounded like thunder playing bass guitar.

The flyer called him:
“God’s Walking Oracle. A Seasoned Prophet of Deep Dimensions.”
This was his first time in our Church.

Church was full by 4:30 p.m.

Even Mummy G.O. wore head-to-toe white lace that evening.
You know it’s serious when Mama wears her “I respect this man of God” Head gear..

T.J. came late.
Quiet as usual.
Sat at the far end of the middle row, notebook in hand.
She didn’t stand out.

But true prophets?
They pick up frequency.
After praise and a short word, Prophet Amos walked slowly to the centre.

He started moving in the crowd.
Prophesying.
Mentioning names.
Describing people’s dreams from the night before.

Every shout of “Jesus!” and “That’s me o!” made the atmosphere heavier.

Then…

He stopped.

Turned slowly.
Pointed.

Straight at T.J.

“Daughter… yes, you. The one who tries to stay hidden.”
Gasps everywhere.

Even I sat straighter.
You know those moments when your skin already knows, this one is not ordinary.
T.J. didn’t move.
She just looked up. Calm.

“I see fire around you. Real fire. But the Lord says… you must be careful.
Because pride is waiting at your door.”

The whole church exhaled. Loud.

Then he added:
“You carry power. But power without submission is dangerous. Why did you leave the Choir? Return”
Ah….At that point?
I felt it.

The shift.
The slight nod from Mummy G.O.
The hidden smirk on Edna’s face.
Even Pastor Dan, sitting at the corner, dropped a slow “Hmmn.”

I looked at T.J…Her face?…Still calm.

She nodded respectfully. Whispered, “Yes, sir.”
Then quietly bowed her head.

But after service…People’s tongues became microphones.

“So even that prophet has seen it!”
“Did you hear what he said? ‘Pride is waiting at her door’ …meaning she’s already entertaining it.”
“You see why we said they should test her spirit first?”

I didn’t know what pained me more…
The fact that he picked her out…Or the fact that they used his words to fuel what they had already been brewing.

By Friday, a Christian blog posted:
“Viral Worship Sister Gets Called Out by Senior Prophet …Is Her Fire Fake?”
I nearly threw my phone.

Because when the devil wants to silence a rising voice, he doesn’t always use witches.
He uses credibility.
He uses people with grey hair and church stamps.

Just like the old prophet misled the young prophet in 1 Kings 13…
By sounding wise,
But speaking against God’s original instruction.
Wahala be like what?

Wahala be like person wey God dey use, but na another man of God go cut the wire in public.
(Translation: Trouble is when someone God raised gets spiritually embarrassed by someone people revere.)

T.J. didn’t speak about it.
Didn’t post.
Didn’t explain.
I needed to study her calmness.

But for the first time since she entered Holy & Fire Altar Assembly…

She stopped attending midweek service.

And me?..I prayed a very simple prayer that night:

“Lord… Silence the discouraging voices of old prophets sent to distract your daughter from her journey.”

People don’t focus on the good side of others, they always look for a small thing to pin them down. I pray that the Lord will strengthen T.J at this time.

  5. They didn’t remember the raw fire around her, it’s only the supposed pride that was focused on. May God help His church.
