CHAPTER 11- “CORDELIA”
©️ Opeyemi Akintunde
As Inspired by the DEEP ONE
The day felt like it had thirty-six hours instead of twenty-four because the next one hour felt like seven hours.
I was told Father wanted to meet me in the Garden of Eden at 8 p.m.
Why so late? Why the mystery? Why me? Couldn’t it wait till the next day?
Throughout the hour, everyone avoided me like I carried leprosy.
Even MS Laura, who normally shadowed my every step, disappeared into thin air.
Cordelia too…off the grid.
Our little sanctified city was so quiet I could hear people breathing.
I laid on my bed for that one hour, staring at the ceiling. My thoughts ran wild.
Why was the Garden causing this kind of reaction?
Scripturally, the Garden of Eden was where Eve fell. Where she was tempted. Where the serpent whispered and humanity collapsed.
Could this be my test? Maybe mine came quicker than others. Maybe that’s why MS Laura looked betrayed. Maybe that’s why Cordelia couldn’t lift her head.
Well, if it was my test, so be it. Grace finds a way.
Besides, I knew Tijesuni and the church were praying for me. At least, I prayed they hadn’t given up.
I just needed to leave alive and sane… and prayerfully ask God to deliver Cordelia.
Because a drowning person cannot save another drowning person. And I was beginning to drown.
I was beginning to feel attracted to the weird Father of a cult-like church.
God forbid!
I walked into the Garden at exactly 8pm…
“On time!”
The velvet voice pierced the silence, making me jump.
Fear. Shock. A tiny sprinkle of… something else.
He stepped out of the shadows…
“I like that,” he said. “You make things clearer.”
Clearer?
I was lost.
“Good evening, Sir,” I greeted, head bowed. I dared not look up. I knew myself. If I looked, my heart might betray me.
Mabel the tough girl had been misbehaving anytime this man’s eyes found her.
So I started talking to myself in my head:
“Focus, girl. Don’t disgrace your whole lineage.”
“Make what clear, Sir?” I asked.
“What the Lord is saying,” he replied smoothly.
Which Lord? I screamed inside me. Because in this Fold, that was the question I really wanted to ask: Which Lord are we even serving?
I kept quiet instead of voicing the obvious.
“Please, sit,” he said, motioning to a chair.
“You’re avoiding looking at me. Am I that scary?”
Yes! Very scary. Very eerie. Very intimidating. You’re like one of the fallen angels…too handsome for anyone’s good. Your lips alone are a distraction. How can a member stand before You…a servant of God and her brain is thinking thoughts it shouldn’t? Sir, you carry the spirit of lust! What you’re doing is hypnotic, manipulative, satanic…
That’s what I wanted to say.
Instead, I shook my head.
“Reverence, Sir. I tend not to look into the eyes of those I revere.”
Revere my foot.
“Well, I give you permission to look me in the eye.”
God abeg! What is this?
“Come on. Don’t be shy,” he said softly. Too soft. Too tempting.
I dodged again.
“Sir, it’s not just that. You carry so much power that if I look into your eyes, I will fall and ascend for hours.”
He laughed.
“Oh, I understand. But relax. Tonight I didn’t come as Father. I came as… Soji.”
Soji?
Oh my Lord.
Who the hell is Soji?
Forgive me, Lord, for using Your name and hell in the same sentence. But that’s what Kairos does…it scrambles your head and makes you forget how to differentiate between good and bad.
Curiosity made me look up. Who was Soji?
And what I saw was different.
He still looked handsome, but not the glowing, untouchable Father.
He looked human. Mortal. Flesh and blood.
And strangely… I was comfortable.
My heart still raced, but differently.
I was drawn to him like a mother to a child.
He seemed smaller. Weaker. Almost pitiful. Like I was the one meant to help him.
I even felt the urge to hug him and to tell him, “I got you.”
Then he spoke.
“He told me you would come. And now you’re here.”
“Who?” I asked cautiously.
“God.”
I frowned. “I don’t understand.”
He smiled knowingly. “Genesis 2:15–25.”
And without opening a Bible, without glancing at notes, he recited the entire passage word for word.
“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it…
It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him…
Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
The man said, ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.’
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.”
By the time he was done, I didn’t need an interpreter.
Did the General Overseer of Kairos just propose to me?
Was he saying he was the Adam of this Eden Cult and I was to be his Eve?
I laughed in Spanish in my brain.
But outwardly, I sat still.
He was waiting for an answer.
Or What?
But! There was something else flashing before me…
Soji? Father?
What’s the difference?

The devil comes to steal, kill and destroy. The other saints might have known what that Garden of Eden represents and maybe that’s why they stayed clear. Father Soji, please take Saint Laura (mummy GO in waiting), leave our precious Mabel alone. God, please deliver Mabel

This Mabel’s situation is very risky…an it’s something that happens to all believers in one way or the other. We all experience situations that happens to put us in a spot, but it’s left to us to make the decision to rely and trust in God as our strength and realize the weakness of the flesh .
May God help us in Jesus name. Amen
I see this as a trap to make her lose her light. That light that intimidates Father.
May the Lord sustain her.

Exactly what I’ve been thinking since ….
I think….
Just thinking ni o….
God sent her to put some things right in his life, to change his interpretation of some things, via Cordelia going there at first , then using TJ to insist that they join the fold in order to rescue her.
Just thinking..
These 2 are drawn to each other, and TJ is yet to be admitted
More grace ma
When
Replying to @Janet Taiwo
My thoughts too!
Kairos will turn to JESUS, entirely
Replying to @Janet Taiwo
Furthermore,
This father is really speaking in parables to Mabel_ he is telling her to ‘soji’ which in Yoruba Language means “to wake up”.
She has begun her test or temptation in the Garden of Eden, which her Spirit interpretes accurately to her. God will help Mabel
I think some others have fallen into his trap, right in the same so called garden.
Lord, please help me to pass all my tests and not fall into temptations wrapped in whatever package.
I can’t wait to see where this leads to.
