Tolu had a clean record at his workplace. Smart. Loyal. God-fearing. He was the team lead everyone admired, and a few secretly despised.

But when promotions came around and his name kept making the shortlist, the whispers turned into a plot.

“We can’t compete fairly with this guy,” Ayo muttered during one of their after-hours meetings.
“I say we use a woman. Set him up with something scandalous,” Kunle said.
“Haba! You want to try a Daniel with Delilah’s strategy?” Toye smirked. “No dey waste your time. Tolu is sealed in discipline.”

After several failed ideas, they found what they believed was foolproof.
“Let’s trap him with his words.”

They started engaging him in sensitive conversations. Always recording. Always editing. They brought up faith topics they knew were delicate in their workplace, feminism, IVF, tribal tensions, submission in marriage, you name it.

Tolu, as usual, answered graciously, but honesty still makes headlines when misquoted.

One day, the HR office summoned him with a calm but loaded question:
“Tolu, is this your voice?”
“Yes… but that’s not what I meant,” he stammered.
His full explanations never made it past the first sentence. The damage was done.

The recordings had been doctored, and his voice was weaponized.

That day, Tolu lost his job.
Not because he sinned.
But because he spoke, and they twisted it.

Even Jesus faced this.
“Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap Him in His words.” — Matthew 22:15

They will twist what you say.
They will quote you out of context.
They may even edit you into a lie.

But may the LORD fight for you!
May the Holy Spirit grant you the wisdom of silence when necessary and the precision of heaven when you must speak.

PRAY THIS:
🗣️ “O Lord, the words of my mouth will not be used against me in Jesus’ name!”

🗣️ “Any trap designed to implicate me by my own words, be exposed and dismantled!”

“Holy Spirit, teach me when to speak and when to be silent.”

KEY VERSE:
Matthew 22:15 — “Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words.”
