BACK TO YOUR FIRST LOVE

A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

Maya used to be the first person to arrive at church. She served in the choir, joined prayer walks, and even volunteered to clean the sanctuary. Her heart burned with love for God, and she often spent nights in prayer, weeping with joy in His presence.

But things had changed. Success came. She became well-known, busy, and constantly in demand. “I’ll pray later,” she often said. “Someone else will handle the choir practice.” Little by little, her fire dimmed.

One night, while scrolling endlessly through her phone, she felt a deep emptiness. The joy she once had in God was gone. In that still moment, she remembered the scripture she used to love: “Remember your first love.”

Her mind went back to the small, quiet moments when she would worship with no microphone, no audience, no title—just her and God. Tears rolled down her face. She whispered, *“Lord, take me back. I don’t want the blessings to replace You.”

And just like Jacob, who had to return to Bethel to renew his covenant with God, Maya knew she had to return to the place of her first encounter—her secret place.

That night, she shut her phone, knelt on the floor, and prayed with sincerity. Slowly, His presence returned. Peace flowed again. And she heard a gentle whisper:

“I never left. I was waiting for you to return.”

We often forget the place of our first fire, where God found us and lit us up. Success, busyness, and distractions can make us drift, but God calls us back to that altar of intimacy.

Go back. Rekindle the fire. Return to your first love.

KEY SCRIPTURE:

Revelation 2:4–5 – “Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.”

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Lord, forgive me for neglecting my first love in You.

2. Father, restore the fire of prayer, worship, and service in me.

3. Lord, help me never to let Your blessings replace the Giver of blessings.
