ASK BEFORE YOU ASSUME
A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

As Inspired by the LIVING WORD
For years, Kunle and Titi were known as a model Christian couple. They loved God deeply, served faithfully, and gave generously. Their business prospered, and their home overflowed with joy — until everything suddenly fell apart.
In less than two months, their company crashed, their car was stolen, and Titi’s health began to fail. Confused and heartbroken, they prayed harder, fasted longer, and sowed seeds everywhere, yet nothing changed.
One evening, during family devotion, their 9-year-old son, Favour, spoke up timidly,
“Mummy, have you asked God why all this is happening?”
Titi paused. “What do you mean, darling?”
“My teacher said when there was famine for three years, King David didn’t just cry — he asked God why. Maybe you should ask too.”
That night, Kunle and Titi knelt together and prayed differently:
“Lord, show us what we can’t see. Reveal the reason behind this storm.”
A few days later, while reading Malachi 3:8-10, Kunle felt convicted — they had stopped tithing months ago when things got tight. They immediately repented and began to make things right. Within weeks, doors began to open again — clients returned, health was restored, and peace flooded their home.
FRIEND,
There are times when life’s troubles don’t make sense — when prayer, fasting, and effort seem to yield nothing. In such seasons, it’s not time to panic or complain — it’s time to inquire.
Even King David, a man after God’s heart, faced famine for three years until he asked the Lord, “Why?” (2 Samuel 21:1).
Crying won’t solve it. Running from one pastor to another won’t fix it. But asking God sincerely — “Lord, show me the root of this problem” — can change everything.
Sometimes, the key to your restoration is hidden in the answer to a simple question.
When life doesn’t make sense, don’t assume — inquire. The Holy Spirit is your Counselor; He knows the cause and the cure. A single word from God can end years of confusion.
KEY SCRIPTURE:
2 Samuel 21:1 (NIV) – “During the reign of David, there was a famine for three successive years; so David sought the face of the Lord. The Lord said, ‘It is on account of Saul and his blood-stained house, it is because he put the Gibeonites to death.’”
