THE CHASTENING

A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

As Inspired by the LIVING WORD

Tara lay weak on her hospital bed, the machines around her beeping softly. Every breath was a battle, and each night felt like it could be her last.

Her mother, sitting beside her, couldn’t hold back the tears anymore. “Lord, please… if You love her, take her. Don’t let her keep suffering like this.”

But that night, as her mother drifted into an uneasy sleep, she heard a still small voice whisper:

“Her pain is not unto death. It is to call her back to Me.”

The words startled her. “Call her back? But she’s always loved You, Lord!”

“She loved Me once,” the voice replied gently. “But she’s been too busy for Me. I have been calling her, but she no longer listens. I am using this pain to draw her attention — not to destroy her, but to restore her.”

When Tara woke up the next morning, she asked for her Bible. It had been months since she last opened it. Through tears, she began to pray again, repenting for how far she’d drifted.

In the following weeks, her strength began to return. Her healing didn’t come instantly, but with every prayer, peace flowed through her body — and eventually, the sickness disappeared completely.

She later said to her mother, “It wasn’t just my body that needed healing; it was my heart.”

God’s correction may sometimes come as pain, delay, or disappointment — but never as destruction. He loves too deeply to let you wander far from His presence.

When life feels unbearable, don’t just ask, “Why me?” — ask, “Lord, what are You teaching me?”

Because even in chastening, there is mercy. And in His correction, there is love.

KEY SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 118:18 (NKJV) – “The Lord has chastened me severely, but He has not given me over to death.”

PRAYER POINTS:
1️⃣ Lord, help me to hear Your voice early so I won’t need to learn through pain.
2️⃣ Father, if there’s any area of my life where I’ve ignored You, draw me back in Your mercy.
3️⃣ Lord, heal every wound that came through chastening and let it bring me closer to You.
4️⃣ Thank You, Father, for loving me enough to correct me and not give me over to death.
