HE NEVER BREAKS A PROMISE
A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

For the fifth time in six weeks, Adanna sat waiting in a restaurant, glancing at her wristwatch every few minutes. The man she thought was “the one,” Tobe, had stood her up again. Each time, he had a different excuse — traffic, work, or his phone “dying.”
Tears welled up in her eyes as she stirred her untouched drink. “Maybe I’m just not meant to be loved,” she whispered.
Across the counter, Chike, one of the waiters, had watched her come and wait — every single time. Something nudged him strongly that evening. He walked over gently and said,
“Excuse me, miss… the table seems too empty for someone this beautiful to sit alone again.”
Adanna forced a weak smile. “I’m fine, thank you. My date is coming.”
Chike smiled knowingly. “He’s not coming. But there’s Someone who never breaks His promise.”
Adanna frowned. “What do you mean?”
He leaned slightly forward. “The One who said, ‘No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.’ (Psalm 84:11). He doesn’t stand His children up. If He said He’d give you a husband, a job, a child, or a breakthrough — He will. But He also knows how to take His time to prepare the best.”
Adanna looked at him, surprised. “Are you a pastor?”
He chuckled. “No. Just a man who once waited. I asked God for a wife and waited for years. It felt like He’d forgotten — until I met my wife, right here. He didn’t stand me up; He was preparing her heart while preparing mine.”
That night, Adanna went home comforted. She prayed differently for the first time in months:
“Lord, I’ll wait for You. I know You don’t make empty promises.”
Months later, Adanna smiled at the same restaurant — this time, sitting across from her fiancé. When she raised her glass to make a toast at their wedding, her voice trembled with joy:
“I once thought God had forgotten me,
but He was only preparing my testimony.
He never stood me up — He showed up right on time.”
FRIEND,
Maybe you’ve been waiting — for love, healing, promotion, or fruitfulness — and it feels like God forgot your address. Don’t lose faith. He doesn’t stand His children up.
Every promise He makes is timed for His perfect season. Sarah waited. Hannah waited. Simeon waited — and they all received exactly what God said.
When it seems like heaven is silent, trust that your promise is still in progress.
God’s promises are sure. His timing is perfect. Your waiting season isn’t punishment — it’s preparation.
KEY SCRIPTURE:
Habakkuk 2:3 (NIV) — “For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.”
PRAYER POINTS:
1️⃣ Lord, help me to trust Your timing and not rush ahead of Your plan.
2️⃣ Father, give me peace while I wait and faith to believe You haven’t forgotten me.
3️⃣ Lord, fulfill every promise You’ve made concerning my life in Your perfect time.
