WHEN THE SPRING RUNS DRY

A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

Naomi sat quietly on her balcony, staring into space. Just a year ago, her life seemed full — a good job, a loving husband, and a hopeful future. But now, everything felt empty. The job was gone, her marriage strained, and her prayers felt like echoes bouncing off a silent sky.

One afternoon, an old friend visited. After listening to Naomi’s story, she sighed and said softly, “I thought you serve God? Where is your God in all this?”

Those words cut deep. Naomi smiled weakly, but later that night, she broke down and cried, “Lord, where are You?”

Then, in the quiet of her tears, a gentle whisper came:
“Daughter, I am still here. You are not meant to strike Me in anger — speak to Me in faith.”

Her heart stirred as she remembered a story she’d once read about Moses — how, at the waters of Meribah, the Israelites complained bitterly about thirst. God had told Moses to speak to the rock, but instead, he struck it in frustration. Water came out, yes, but Moses lost something greater — his access to the Promised Land.

FRIEND, sometimes our lives look like dry springs.
Married but barren.
Educated but jobless.
Wealthy but unwell.
Connected yet struggling.
Praying yet seemingly unheard.

And like Naomi, people may mock, asking, “Where is your God?”
But God is still right where He has always been — on the Rock, waiting for you to speak and not strike.

When we grow bitter, complain, or seek help from ungodly sources, we are striking the Rock. But when we pray, trust, and praise in the dryness, we speak to the Rock — and the water of life flows again.

Your “dry season” is not a sign that God has abandoned you. It’s a test of your faith and patience. Don’t let frustration make you act in anger or unbelief. Speak to God, not against Him.

KEY SCRIPTURE:
Numbers 20:8 (NIV) – “Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water.”

Psalm 42:11 (NIV) – “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.”

PRAYER POINTS:

Lord, forgive me for every time I’ve allowed frustration to make me doubt You.

Father, help me to speak to You in faith and not strike You in anger.

Lord, let every dry spring in my life burst forth with Your living water — in my marriage, finances, and health.

Holy Spirit, give me grace to wait patiently for the manifestation of Your promise.
