CHAPTER 13 – BATTLE OF THE BRETHREN

Let’s be honest…After glory comes gossip, and some brethren don’t rest until peace is peppered and this time, I’m fighting the urge to scream “Leave this girl alone!”

It didn’t take long.

By Sunday afternoon, two full days after the vigil, the WhatsApp statuses were heating up:

“Be careful when power comes too quickly. Not all fire is holy.”

“Glory without grounding is a fast route to madness.”

“Pray for our sister. Something is happening.”

I was in my room, still recovering from Friday vigil, rubbing Robb on my legs (because Holy Ghost fire no dey cancel leg cramps), when Sister Peace called me in a shaky voice.

“Aunty Mabel… T.J. fainted.”
I sat up. “Where?!”

“Her room. I heard from the girl she shares the compound with. They said she was praying after service today, then suddenly screamed and dropped. She’s been taken to Elder Akin’s house.”

Ah. One of the elders that attended the Vigil and was also stunned by the Glory that came into the temple.

Elder Akin.
Our deliverance elder.
If you’re in his house, it’s either the devil is leaving you, or you’re leaving earth. He will cast out all the demons in you, although in the past two years he had not been active in his calling. He also had gone a bit cold.

I rushed over.
Elder Akin’s house was quiet.
Too quiet.
I knocked once.
Twice.

Then his wife opened the door and nodded gently.
“She’s inside. She’s sleeping now.”

I removed my shoes and tiptoed in.

There, on the small visitor’s mattress, lay T.J. Face calm. Blanket pulled to her chin.
Breathing softly.

She didn’t look like someone in torment…She looked like someone after battle.

Elder Akin was in the corner, flipping Bible pages slowly. He had a different countenance . A countenance of guilt.

He looked up at me.

“She’s fine. Nothing demonic. Just exhaustion. But something happened in the spirit. Something serious.”

I nodded.

“Should I tell Mama?”
He shook his head.

“Not yet. Let her rest. The girl fought something deep. If God opened your eyes to what she withstood on Friday, you’d weep for her.”

I believed him.

But not everyone else did.

I started seeing a new twist to the rumours:

“I heard she screamed because she saw a demon in her room.”
“Maybe she has opened herself to strange powers.”
“ It’s Possible God is punishing her”
“Abi all this her quiet spirit na pretense?”
“ Daddy G.O needs to be careful, all this can be spiritual scam oo”

As I sat watching her sleeping, a choir sister named Dami posted on her IG story:
“Be careful who lays hands on you. Some people carry confusion in the name of fire.”
#justsaying
#protectyouraltar

Subtle? Yes.

But in this season, every sub was a dagger…And the person being stabbed?

Still sleeping…Still recovering.
Still unaware that the same church where God moved through her, was now trying to crucify her quietly.

Wahala be like what?
Wahala be like say you faint after fighting in the spirit, and your reward na rumour and retweet.
( Trouble is when you go to war for people, and they turn around and call you suspect.)

Even Mummy G.O. called me:
“Mabel, what’s happening to that sister? Why do people keep sending me anonymous messages asking about her?”

I replied gently:
“She’s resting. That’s all. She gave too much.”

Mama sighed.
“Hmm. The spirit of this age… Young people love glory and power, but don’t have what it takes to be carriers of it. She didn’t know ministering is not for babies. I hope she doesn’t give too much and disappear” She smirked..

That one pained me.

Because even Mama was sounding like she was no longer sure.

That night, I prayed a different kind of prayer.

Not tongues.
Not warfare.
Just a heart-cry..

“God… defend your daughter..Don’t let them ruin her before her real assignment begins.”

This is beautiful and inspiring ❤️

May the church understands that she is a member of the Christ’s body and no member of this body is irrelevant. No need for competition just focus on the function giving to you as a part of the body. Amen 🙏

  2. Thanks Mabel, she really needs the prayer at this time.

May God deliver His Church from crucifying those sent to revive it back to Life.

  5. “God defend your daughter, don’t let them ruin her before her real assignment begins” this statement is deep 🤔

  6. Hmmmmm, why can’t people just glorify God and pray for her? Why so bitter and jealous?

  7. Mummy G.O that ought to be supportive and encouraging, joining the naysayers and what is the role of daddy G.O in all this, is he complacent or allowing his wife to be at the forefront while he’s meekly coming behind.
