‘THE PRIMARY ASSIGNMENT’

“Wait… did God just ask someone to lie?”
That was the debate between two young believers after reading 1 Samuel 16.
One said, “God told Samuel to go and sacrifice, but His real intention was to anoint David. That sounds deceptive.”
The other asked, “But didn’t Samuel actually offer a sacrifice when he got there?”
“Yes, he did.”
“Then God didn’t lie. He simply used wisdom to preserve His prophet and His plan.”
See, there’s something deep here…
God told Samuel to offer a sacrifice—not because that was the main reason for the journey, but because the true assignment was too sensitive to reveal upfront. If Saul had found out, Samuel and David could’ve been dead before sundown.
Sometimes, God gives you a secondary path to preserve the primary purpose.
You might think you’re in a place by chance, but heaven’s strategy could be at work.
You’re not “just” a schoolteacher.
That could be God’s cover to position you to disciple teenagers who will one day shape nations.
You’re not “just” a doctor.
That might be heaven’s setup for you to minister healing—both medical and spiritual—to souls on the brink of eternity.
You’re not “just” a journalist or mass communicator.
God may be using that as a launchpad to speak His truth to a generation through screens, soundwaves, and stories.
Samuel fulfilled the visible assignment (sacrifice), but never lost sight of the invisible one (anointing David).
Friend, don’t get stuck in what’s visible. Ask God:
“What is the real reason You placed me here?”
Remember, the secondary assignment may be your platform, but the primary is your purpose.
