Prayer Mountain Detour

There’s something about “let’s go to the mountain” that sounds so holy…
Until you realize not every altar is built to honour God.

When Sharon told me Pastor Dan had texted T.J. about a “private prayer retreat for mentorship,” something in my stomach turned.

He made it sound like it was a leadership development invitation.

“We’re planning a 3-day fasting retreat for promising leaders. Very few will be invited. I sense you should be among.”

That was the message.
But guess what?
Only T.J. was invited.

No “we.” No “few others.”
Just T.J.
Just Dan.
Just them two.

And the location?

One mountain in the outskirts of town.
“Eagle Rock Retreat Centre.”

I’d never heard of it. And I know every Holy & Fire-approved location.

I got the full gist about it from Sister Peace…the soft-spoken girl who helps clean the Choir office. She saw Pastor Dan walk past the admin block holding a brown envelope with T.J.’s name written in big pen.

Curious, she peeked later when she saw the envelope on his table. She saw the printed schedule:
“Personal Encounters
Day 1: Isolation & Voice Training.
Day 2: Prayer Walks & Impartation.
Day 3: Personal Prophetic Sessions.”

Father Abeg!
Me I said nothing.

But when T.J. asked to excuse herself from choir rehearsal for “a 3-day prayer commitment,” I joined dots sharp sharp.
One question though! Didn’t our Spirit filled sister have the gist of Discernment of Spirit..Because Pastor Dan’s motives was not looking genuine.

Another striking thing for me was the way Edna was quick to give her permission. The Edna I knew would make a big deal out of it. Preach about commitment and how Choir rehearsal too was a place of retreat, but on the Contrary she applauded her for taking time to feed her Spirit.

“This is commendable!” She had said with so much joy I was almost fooled.

Day 1: silence.

Day 2: silence.

Then on Day 3 at 1:14 a.m., I got a text from an unknown number.

“Hello. My name is Sister Esther. I am at Eagle Rock Centre. Please, I just wanted to confirm something quietly. Is Sister Tijesuni a junior pastor or someone’s fiancée?”
The text came into the Church’s phone number where people send in inquiries. The number is mostly picked from our website.

Wait. What?

I called immediately.

She picked.

Voice shaking.

“Aunty, I’m sorry o. I’ve seen this sister praying seriously. Fire. Like… real fire. But I noticed the brother that came with her has been… um… unusually ‘close’ since they got here on Friday. Like… he goes inside her room to ‘check on her’, sits closely beside her during morning meditation. It is obvious she is not comfortable. Then just now…about 15 minutes ago.. I heard shouting from her room… then silence.”

Goosebumps.

“ Silence?” I asked in fear.
“ Yes! Dead silence.. then I heard someone walk out of her room. Unlike her, I have not heard any prayer from her room after that. I find this strange, because Since she came here Friday night, it’s been prayer every time she is not with the brother.”

“Ha!” this was sounding creepy and scary. My Mind had thought of a million possibilities.

“ Can you please help me check on her?” I asked
“I am sorry..I can’t .. What if it is a crime scene?’ She said
“ Crime Scene!!!” I didn’t like the sound of that.
“ Can you please help go to the Security of the camp and inform them?” I pleaded

“ Aunty, I am sorry oo, I can’t ..What if the brother is outside.. I came to this retreat camp to pray and heal, not to die. I just thought to let you know what is happening. It’s because I recognized her from your Church’s trending clip that’s why I got your number from your website. I am just trying to be my Sister’s keeper, let me end this call before they call me the Sister’s killer… Shalom”
She ended the call…
“Hello!… This lady has hung up”

I was literally shaking…
I immediately called Pastor Dan’s line! He ended the call..
God! I hope they have not dimmed this light!
