Tolu had just received a call that changed her life. A major contract she’d been chasing for over a year had just been awarded to her. But she knew the secret behind the open door, her father’s words.

Just a week before, she had visited her aging parents unannounced with two bags of groceries, cooked her mother’s favorite native dish, and bought her father a new wristwatch. After the meal, her father placed his hand on her head and declared: “May doors open for you where others are locked out.”

Scripture reminds us how Isaac, after eating a savory meal from his son, released a generational blessing (Genesis 27). There’s a powerful connection between honoring the old and attracting divine favor.

Sadly, many today are so consumed with self-fulfillment and online validation that they forget the shoulders they stood on to get here, the old ones who once carried them.

Whether they are your biological parents, foster parents, in-laws, spiritual leaders, or mentors, do not neglect them. Care for them, feed them, surprise them, not out of obligation, but from a heart of honor.

If you’re waiting on God for children, provision, or direction, plant the seed of care. Give your parents a reason to bless you. Blessings spoken from grateful aged lips are not ordinary.

Remember, the meal Jacob served wasn’t just food, it was a destiny trigger.

Lord, teach me to honor those who have gone ahead of me.
Help me to be intentional in caring for my parents, in-laws, mentors, and elders around me.
As I feed and bless the old, let my children and destiny helpers remember me for good.
Father, every word of blessing spoken over me from grateful hearts, let it manifest speedily.
Lord, destroy the spirit of neglect and selfishness in our generation — let love and honor arise again.

Declare: “I will not neglect my old ones. As I honor them, honor will never depart from my life and generations in Jesus’ name!”
