WHEN SUCCESS LEAVES A VOID

A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

Chief Adewale was a respected man. A brilliant mind. A disciplined father. He raised his children to be exceptional teaching them diligence, excellence, and the power of hard work.

“Life rewards effort,” he would always say. “Put in the work, and you will see results.”

And truly, his children became everything society admired.
Successful. Influential. Wealthy.

But as age caught up with him, Chief Adewale longed for one thing to gather his children one last time under his roof.

They came in grand style. Expensive cars filled the compound. Laughter echoed. On the outside, it looked like a perfect family.

But by evening, as they sat together, something felt… wrong.

His first son and his wife barely spoke without arguing. Their wealth had not built peace. Their children lacked discipline.

His daughter, rich and accomplished, spoke harshly to her husband, constantly reminding him of his “lesser” status. Respect was missing.

Another child, though outwardly successful, carried a silent emptiness, loneliness hidden behind forced smiles.

One battled a serious illness in secret.

And another had completely lost his identity, drifting far from the values he was raised with.

Chief Adewale sat there, watching quietly… and his heart broke.

That night, he returned to his room heavy with sorrow.
“How did I get it so wrong?” he whispered.

“I gave them everything… but something is missing.”

Exhausted, he fell asleep.

In his dream, there was a knock at the door.

He opened it to see a familiar figure, someone from his past. A voice he once knew. A presence he had ignored for years.

“I’ve been knocking for a long time,” the man said gently.

Chief Adewale stared, confused… then suddenly, it clicked.

It wasn’t just a visitor.
It was a reminder.

A reminder of a time when he once knew God deeply.
Before knowledge replaced faith.
Before success replaced surrender.

Then the words echoed in his heart:
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock…”

He woke up immediately.

Tears rolled down his face as realization hit him
He had built successful lives, but neglected spiritual foundations.
He had raised achievers, but not seekers of God.

Right there, beside his bed, he knelt down.

“Lord… I need You again.”

Success without God can still lead to emptiness.
Achievement without Him can leave a void nothing else can fill.

It is possible to build great lives on the outside,
and still lack what truly sustains life on the inside.

Jesus is still knocking.
Not just on the door of failure but on the door of success without Him.

KEY SCRIPTURE:
Revelation 3:20 – “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in…”
