WHEN YOU CAN’T WALK AWAY
A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

Ada knew the situation around her was dangerous. Her supervisor had made his intentions clear more than once. The subtle comments, the unnecessary closeness, the late-night work requests, she understood what it all meant.
But walking away was not simple.
Jobs were scarce, and the small salary she earned was the only thing keeping food on the table for her younger siblings and her aging mother.
One evening, she confided in her close friend, Ife.
“You should leave that place,” Ife said firmly.
“And do what?” Ada replied quietly. “Be jobless again for months?”
“It’s better to struggle than to lose your dignity.”
Ada sighed. “I’m not planning to give in. I’m watching and praying.”
Ife shook her head. “Watching and praying inside temptation? That’s like standing in a lion’s den and hoping not to be eaten.”
Ada smiled faintly. “Daniel survived the lion’s den.”
“But Daniel was thrown in,” Ife replied. “You are choosing to stay.”
Ada paused before answering.
“No. Poverty threw me in. Responsibility threw me in. But God can still protect me.”
So Ada made a decision. She would guard herself carefully never staying alone unnecessarily, never compromising her values, and every night she prayed the same prayer:
“Lord, strengthen me to stand, and change this situation in Your own way.”
Months passed. The pressure continued, but Ada refused to bend.
Then one morning, something unexpected happened. Her supervisor called her into his office.
“Ada,” he said quietly, “I owe you an apology.”
She stood frozen.
“I recently gave my life to Christ,” he continued. “And I realized how wrong I have been. Your refusal to compromise opened my eyes. You stood for your faith even when I made things difficult for you.”
He slid an envelope across the table.
“This is not payment for anything. It’s simply my way of saying thank you for showing me what integrity looks like.”
Inside the envelope was enough money for Ada to finally start the small catering business she had dreamed about for years.
Years later, that small beginning had grown into a thriving restaurant run together with her family.
And every time someone asked how it all began, Ada would smile and say:
“It started with refusing to bow, even inside a difficult place.”
The Bible teaches us to flee from temptation—but sometimes life places us in situations we cannot immediately escape.
In those moments, the answer is not compromise.
The answer is vigilance, prayer, and unwavering conviction.
God is able to protect His children even in difficult environments.
Stand firm, and trust Him to change what you cannot.
KEY SCRIPTURE:
1 Corinthians 10:13 – “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.”
