WHEN THE WELL GOES SILENT
A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

As Inspired by the LIVING WORD
There are seasons when people look at you expecting overflow, joy in your words,
strength in your steps, answers in your testimony.
But instead, they meet silence.
No flow.
No evidence.
Just dryness.
And quietly, sometimes loudly, the question comes:
“Where is your God?”
A well is not meant to be dry.
A spring is designed to flow.
So when a spring runs dry, something feels terribly wrong.
Dry springs look like this:
– Married, yet waiting
– Qualified, yet stranded
– Blessed, yet broken in health
– Surrounded by people, yet deeply lonely
– Full of potential, yet stuck
Dryness attracts opinions.
Dryness invites mockery.
Dryness tests faith.
The Israelites stood before such a moment at Meribah.
What was supposed to refresh them provoked them instead.
Pressure mounted.
Voices rose.
Anger boiled.
And Moses, the man who heard God clearly,
the man who saw wonders, allowed the noise of people to drown the instruction of God.
God was present.
God was ready.
God was waiting.
But instead of speaking to the Rock,
Moses struck it.
Anger replaced obedience.
Reaction replaced instruction.
And that single moment cost him entrance into the Promised Land.
Here is the lesson:
Dry seasons tempt us to react instead of relate.
To complain instead of commune.
To look elsewhere instead of looking upward.
Some people strike God with bitterness.
Some strike Him with accusations.
Some strike Him by seeking answers outside Him.
But the Rock still speaks.
And the Rock still responds to conversation, not violence.
Dryness does not mean God is absent.
It means He is inviting you to speak, not to strike.
Pressure reveals posture.
Pain reveals trust.
Talk to God about that silent area.
Bring it to Him in prayer, not frustration.
Let the Rock release water in His own way and time.
Your spring will flow again.
KEY SCRIPTURE:
Isaiah 41:18 –
“I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys.”
