THE WIND WITHIN

A Deep Thoughts Devotional Story

“Mummy, why do the kites fly so high?” little Dara asked as she watched her mother finish a set of brightly colored kites meant for a school event.

Her mother sighed. This wasn’t the best moment, she was behind schedule, and the parents were on their way to pick up the decorations.

But Dara tugged her arm again.
“Mummy, please tell me. I want to know.”

Her father, Kunle, who had been watching quietly, smiled and said, “Just answer her, love. You know she won’t stop.”

So her mum paused and bent a little.
“Dara, the kite flies because of the wind blowing against it. The wind lifts it higher than the string pulling it down.”

“What is wind?” Dara asked immediately.
Her mum threw her hands up. “This is why I didn’t want to start!” she said with playful frustration.

Kunle motioned Dara closer.
“Come, my princess. Wind is something we cannot see, but we can feel. It gives the kite the power to rise. Without the wind, the kite stays on the ground, even if someone pulls it.”

Dara’s eyes widened.
“So… if the wind stops, the kite will fall?”

“Exactly,” Kunle replied.

She thought for a moment.
“So Daddy… if I want to stay on top in life, I need wind inside me. Can you and Mummy blow wind into me?”

Kunle burst into laughter. Dara’s mind worked like magic, sharp, innocent, and beautifully curious.

“No, sweetheart,” he said, wiping tears of laughter. “We can’t blow that kind of wind into you. But there is a Wind that lifts people. The Wind that keeps you rising above challenges. The Wind that makes you float when others sink.”

“Who is that?” Dara whispered.

Kunle placed a hand on her shoulder.
“The Holy Spirit. When He lives inside you, you rise. You stay above fear, sadness, and failure. But when people let Him leave their hearts, they fall, just like a kite with no wind.”

Friend, without God’s Spirit, people stay down, drained, defeated, pulled by the weight of life.
But when His Spirit fills you, you rise effortlessly, staying above what brings others low.

Unlike a kite that can only fly for a short time, the Holy Spirit never loses His lifting power.
He stays as long as we welcome Him.

Remember King Saul, God lifted him high, His Spirit made him great, but when Saul stopped honoring God, the Spirit departed, and Saul fell like a kite with no wind.

The Spirit within you determines the height above you.
Stay filled… and you will keep rising.
