‘EVEN GOD RESTED’

The tears just wouldn’t stop. I sat by the hospital bedside watching my brother, Kunle, breathing through machines.
It all happened so fast… one minute he was leading a training session for over 200 staff members, the next minute, he collapsed. Right there in his element, at the peak of his “grind.”

Kunle was the definition of indispensable. If it had a face, it would be his, always working, always helping, always pushing. I remember how proud he was of not taking a sick day in 3 years. “Rest is for the weak,” he used to say.

But the truth? Even strength has limits.

The doctors later confirmed it was a silent burnout, and his body had been giving warning signs for months: migraines, insomnia, fatigue… but Kunle ignored them. Just like many of us do.

When I looked at him lying there, I remembered a line our mum often said:
“God worked for six days and rested. Are you stronger than God?”

That question has never felt more real than now.

Friend, if the God who created the heavens and earth rested on the seventh day, what excuse do you have?

In today’s hustle culture, we applaud nonstop working, no sleep, no pause, just go. But even God paused to enjoy His work and to model what we must do.
Some of us rest only when our bodies force us to. But rest isn’t a suggestion. It’s a command.

You may be passionate, needed, hardworking, but you are not limitless. The people who rely on you would rather have you whole and present than wiped out and gone.

So, schedule your rest before life schedules it for you, painfully.

“For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.”
