Devotional – “THE OFFER”

As Inspired by the Living Word.

Tola stared at the job offer letter in her hands. It was a dream position…high salary, prestigious company, and all the perks she had prayed for. Yet, deep in her heart, she felt uneasy. She couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right.

Her friends and family couldn’t understand her hesitation. “Tola, this is the opportunity of a lifetime! You are getting a job at the beginning of the year ” they said. “Why are you overthinking it?”

However,  Tola had learned from experience that not every open door is from God, yet the fear of not getting another job offer lingered in her mind. She remembered who she was from the book of Romans, she remembered the scripture

” For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”

– Romans 8:14-15

As a daughter of Abba, she decided to call upon her father instead of accommodating fear and uncertainty.

She knelt by her bed that night and prayed, “Abba, Father, I don’t want to make this decision without You. Lead me by Your Spirit.”

The next morning, she woke up with a strong urge to research the company further. As she dug deeper, she discovered troubling reports about their unethical practices and high employee turnover. It became clear why she had felt uneasy.

Tola turned down the offer, trusting God for something better. A few weeks later, she received another job offer—one that aligned with her values and offered even greater opportunities for growth. With tears of gratitude, she whispered, “Thank You, Lord, for leading me. I’m so glad I followed Your Spirit.”

Dear Family, Like Tola, we all face decisions that can shape the course of our lives.

The start of a new year often brings mixed feelings. For some, it’s excitement and hope; for others, it’s fear and uncertainty. Questions like, “Will this year be better?” “Will I succeed?” “What if I fail again?” can weigh heavily on the heart.

But Romans 8 reminds us of two powerful truths:

1. You are a child of God, adopted into His family through Christ.

2. As a child of God, you are not to live in fear but to be led by the Spirit.

The world may push us to make choices based on fear, pressure, or immediate gratification, but as sons and daughters of God, we are called to be led by the Spirit.

This year, you cannot afford to make decisions without seeking God’s guidance. Whether it’s a career move, a marital decision, or choosing your friendships, cry out to your Heavenly Father. Trust His Spirit to lead you on the path of righteousness. God will never lead you in a way that is out of His Will.

Fear has no place in your life as a child of God. The Spirit of adoption assures you that you belong to a loving Father who is ready to Lead you.

Embrace the gift of being the child of God and accept his hand for him to lead you.

Prophetic Declaration:

I Am a Child of God:

I declare that I am adopted into God’s family, and I will live confidently, knowing I belong to Him.

I Reject the Spirit of Fear:

I will not let fear of the unknown, past failures, or external circumstances dictate my choices this year.

I Will Be Led by the Spirit:

In every decision—career, marriage, friendships—I will trust the leading of the Holy Spirit.

I Will Walk in Righteousness:

I believe that the Spirit of God will guide me on the right path, and I will follow His leading with faith and obedience.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for adopting me as Your child. I reject the spirit of fear and embrace the Spirit of adoption. This year, I ask for Your guidance in every area of my life. Lead me by Your Spirit in my decisions, relationships, and pursuits. Help me to walk in righteousness and trust You completely. Abba, Father, I surrender this year to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Challenge for Today:

Think about a decision you are facing in this season. Take it to God in prayer and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. Be attentive to His leading and trust Him, even if it goes against popular opinion.
